Textured Garage Doors
Embossed steel is by far the most popular textured option, and for good reason. During manufacturing, a wood-grain pattern is pressed into the steel panel, then finished with a wood-tone or solid paint color. The embossing gives the door genuine depth and dimension — you can see and feel the grain — while the underlying steel keeps its strength and low maintenance.

Smooth Garage Doors
If you prefer clean, uninterrupted lines, a smooth flush-panel door skips the embossing entirely for a sleeker, more contemporary profile.

Vinyl doors are smooth by nature and very low-maintenance, though they come in a more limited range of styles and colors compared to steel.
Fiberglass doors are typically smooth as well, though — like steel — they can also be embossed with a wood-grain pattern and finished in a wood tone if you want that texture without real wood’s upkeep. Fiberglass holds up particularly well against humidity, salt air, and insects, which makes it worth considering if you’re near the coast.
Texture, Maintenance, and Louisiana’s Climate
